Via MacRumors, the news came in about LaCie announcing a 2-bay RAID storage solution that connects over Thunderbolt 3 (which uses the USB-C connector), aptly named 2big. The main purpose might be storage, but with the many ports it’s basically a dock with an extra Thunderbolt 3 upstream port, DisplayPort, an USB 3.0 port, and two card slots (SD and CompactFlash).
As for the storage part, you get the choice between 12, 16 or 20 TB disks, all 7200 RPM. Throughput speeds are specced to 440 MB/s. The product pictures show the LaCie 2big placed on a desk. However with these 7200 RPM drives, we’re interested in how much noise the thermally controlled fan will generate.
