If you’re looking for a wireless, mechanical keyboard, and you like a bit of bling, then we might have found the keyboard for you.
Backed by more than 1400 backers, and reaching its goal by a factor 5, within almost a week the Hexgears X-1 Mechanical Keyboard will get its funding. It’s a mechanical wireless keyboard, which can be used as a wired USB Type C keyboard, and, as an extra feature, has RGB lighting with different background modes.
The keyboard comes in all colours, as long as it’s black or white, and is inspired, according to their Kickstarter page, by the world’s first supersonic aircraft, the Bell X-1.
Why a mechanical keyboard you may ask? Well, the kickstarter program nicely answers that question:
Comparing Choc switches with regular membrane keyboards, which you have probably used on countless computers, is even more revealing. Membrane keyboard keys must be pressed all the way down to work. Membranes also tend to limit how many keys can function at once, which can hurt performance in certain games. Low quality, squishy switch feel is their final and most heinous flaw.Mechanical keyboards address all of those issues. Sharp, responsive feedback is their dominant trait. The X-1 allows 6 keys to function at once in wireless mode, and all keys can register at once over USB-C. You don’t even need to bottom out to activate the switches and send a keypress to your device.
The research techniques for the X-1 program became the patterns for all subsequent X-craft projects, and we’d love to see a similar fate for the Hexgears X-1 keyboard, whose white version keyboard would match our Macbook setup pretty well, and once we get our hands on a review sample, we’re sure to post a more extensive review on our site.
