This Week in USB-C Today

With the CES 2017 going at full speed this week, there was no shortage of new USB-C devices. Manufacturers worldwide seem to settle on the new standard, and many new innovative solutions are equipped with an USB-C connector, slowly replacing the older USB connectors.

One of the new products displayed at the CES is the new All-In-One Precision 5720 by Dell. This 27″ PC come at a resolution of 3840×2160 and is equipped with 4 USB 3.0-ports, HDMI, Thunderbolt 3 via USB-C, and has a gigabit ethernet port. The system is either delivered with Windows 10, or a Linux distribution like Ubuntu or Red Hat.

Another new product by Dell is the Canvas. The Canvas is a 27″ screen which can be orientated on a flat surface and which can be used to control PCs. We envision that this screen can be found on the desks of creatives, where either DJs or graphical designers can benefit from using this screen. The Canvas comes equipped with mini-HDMI, mini-DisplayPort 1.2 and USB-C.

Another giant, Lenovo, introduced a new attempt at the Google Glass, now named New Glass C200. These are augmented reality glasses, equipped with a camera and software for object recognition, which works in tandem with an Android smartphone. To use the new Glass C200, a smartphone needs to be connected to the Pocket Unit through an USB-C connection.

Zotac introduces an external enclosure for graphics cards via Thunderbolt 3. A laptop, PC or mini All-In-One can be connected. The Zotac External Graphics Dock includes a Thunderbolt 3-port with a bandwidth of 40Gbit/sec for connecting to a PC. In addition, the docking station includes four USB 3.0 ports, one with Quick Charge support.

TCL, known from the Alcatel brand, has put a teaser online of a new BlackBerry smartphone with a physical keyboard. The smartphone has been given the provisional name Mercury. The device runs Android 7.0, and has a fingerprint scanner and comes equipped with a USB-C connection.

At the date of the publication of this post, the CES is not over yet, so we are eagerly awaiting even more exciting news, so stay tuned for further updates!
